Amber's Summer Hair Cut

Amber and Mom both got their hair done. Amber's is a cute summer cut =) And Mom's isn't really a cut so much as she is giving up trying to straighten it. With the rain and humidity it has already been too much of a fight :( So it's crazy curly for awhile.

To this ; ) And she told the lady she wanted her hair cut just to her shoulders. Well, parts of it just touches her shoulders, but most of the layers are a lot shorter than we expected. She likes it though and has gotten a lot of compliments! It is adorable=) I just hope after she washes it we can fix it as cute.

Out of the mouth of . . . . boys

We had a difficult morning. We were running late and Amber was grumpy big time. We got in the car and headed off to the sitters so we had a little talk all the way to the sitters house. When we arrived and Ryan was getting out he said “Mommy, were you talking to me or Amber? Because I got lost, I just couldn’t keep up.” Darn . . . . and I thought it was one of our better talks . . . . guess it was just me. (Mike wasn’t with us but I can just hear him whispering to Ryan “me too buddy, me too.”)

Dr. Amber

Amber came home from bible study with a rug burn on her back from playing too hard. We put her to bed, but heard her in the kitchen shortly after that. She had a baggie full of ice for her rug burn. I made her put it in a second baggie, and off she went. In the morning she handed me the two soggy empty baggies . . . . pretty much empty. She said “I think they leaked”. I’m not sure where, but somewhere in her bed is a pretty wet spot (they were full of ice). Oh well.

We had put the kids to bed when we heard Amber, she came down to the landing on the stairs. Both Mike and I were trying to understand her, the only thing we really got was something about “Beauty sleep”. “She needed her beauty sleep or she would have dark circles under her eyes and she already had a little bit of a circle, but she needed her beauty sleep.” And she had something small and pink in her hand. Mike and I just told her to go to bed and laughed after she left. The next morning I saw something pink in the garbage. When I was brushing her hair she had something pink stuck in her hair. I finally put it together, she had gone in the medicine cabinet, taken out the pink ear plugs for swimming and put them in last night so she could get her beauty sleep. Somehow they managed to get in her hair and it was stuck big time, what a mess. I tried to tell her not to put those in her ears again, they were for swimming. But Amber insisted they helped her get her beauty sleep.

One night when Amber was sick with a bad cold I let her sleep with me. Mike was out of town in Arizona at his best friends wedding, so we had the whole bed to ourselves. Amber was coughing and very restless. In the middle of the night she sat up and said her ear hurt. I’m thinking, oh no not an ear infection, I’m going to have to get her to the doctor tomorrow. So Amber tells me to go get her a cup. I’m thinking “what?”. But our Amber is known for being creative and doing her own thing, so I go get her a plastic cup. She holds it up to her ear and says it helps and goes back to sleep, no problem. We never did have to go to the doctor, no ear infection. I don’t know. I’m always telling Amber “don’t self medicate” as she always comes up with these things, but maybe she knows more than I think. Maybe she will be a doctor some day.

Dogs, dogs and more dogs

Mike decided no more baby gates to separate the cats and dogs . . . . . so we took them down.

Then he decided no more dog crates . . . . . . . . . . so we moved them to the spare bedroom (for emergencies) and the dogs have been free ever since. We are going on three weeks now. So far no big problems, but the throw rugs are needing to be thrown away now. We got the dogs some cool toys to keep them busy and it helps. This is the favorite toy. It is a big square dice and you put dog food inside in the maze. If they move the square around eventually some of the food falls out. They all love it (even Booker), but Shelby spends the most time playing with it. That is good because she is a little thin.

Just another day with, some odd comments, per usual

Conversation at Dinner:
R - Is that puke, did he just throw up?
A - Do we have throw-up in our stomach?
R - Cool look at his eye.
A - Eewww is that blood.
M - No it's not puke and that is juice from being cooked not blood.
R - Yum, I like it! Now I have had raw fish, raw shrimp (no kidding - I didn't know you could eat raw shrimp), muscles and a crayfish all in one dinner. (Yes, this was the conversation as Mike helped Ryan get the meat out of the crayfish.)
G - That's my boy, just like his Daddy=)

We took the kids to Horton Hear's A Who after I got off work and then went out to eat at a Chinese Restaurant. It had quite a variety of food. I even had some crab legs. The kids had a variety and we all ate a lot. Yum! That's my idea of a great date night - dinner and a movie!

It's Been awhile . . . . but a few short notes

Sorry I haven't been updating this lately. Things have been a bit crazy lately. Crazy busy that is (hee hee). Gayle, our Administrative Assistant at Freedom retired last week and I am the new Administrative Assistant. We hired a new receptionist and got new computers and the transition of jobs and computers has kept me hopping. I just had to share a couple of funny things that have been said lately:

Amber: I kind of love a boy at school . . . . just a little bit of a dot.

I got a baby bottle filled with hershey kisses from a baby shower I went to. I dumped out the kisses and gave the bottle to Amber to give to her Boyds Bear "Sarah". Shortly after, she put the bottle back on the kitchen counter, and went back into the other room. It was clear she didn't want it.

Me: Amber, why don't you want this baby bottle?
Amber: It smells funny

I take off the lid and realize it smells like chocolate from the kisses that were in it.

Me: Amber do you know what that smell is?
Amber: No
Me: It's chocolate! Now what baby wouldn't want a baby bottle that smelled like chocolate.

Very quietly I hear her say from the other room "Sarah''.
